Today's Fearless Friday goes to John Ortiz. Naturally shy from an early age, he developed a speech impediment where he would stutter through most of any sentence, at any given time. Needless to say, speaking (let alone expressing himself) wasn’t a strength of his until he finished high school.
Because of that FEAR, he was always reluctant to share any of his thoughts, comments & opinions with others; he remained reserved. While this taught John to truly observe and listen to conversations; there was so much building up inside him, that it was almost MORE painful to NOT share is Perspective and thoughts. "Bloomfield College changed all that for me as a student, being involved in organizations, Resident Advisor and then later on, Lambda Sigma Upsilon Latino Fraternity Inc. as a member. Slowly, I began to take on more engaging, speaking roles and exercise my weakness. My once weakness, turned into one of my greatest strengths. Fast forward a few years and I’ve traded in being FEARFUL for being FEARLESS. Absent of Fear, I’ve become a 200hr Yoga Instructor, and rarely does my speech impediment show up anymore. Teaching 5th grade boys and girls through NEWARK YOGA MOVEMENT, I’m more concerned with connecting with them and sharing with them my story and how I found YOGA. I wasn’t introduced to YOGA until after college, Today I am in the position to introduce boys and girls in Newark that look just like me, to YOGA." Having FEAR would’ve prevented me from this experience from occurring, Being FEARLESS allowed for the experience to occur and I am forever grateful. Thank you John for being fearless and shining your light toward this generation!

I am FEARLESS because I am not afraid to allow my light to shine brighter than all negativity10/7/2016 Schentel Jones is the creator of the newly inspirational blog Highly Happie! We all know first hand how hard it is to create a platform that allows others to enter your personal thoughts. Schentel UNLEASHED that boulder and allowed her dream and vision to come into fruition which has now inspired and empowered so many young professionals.
What Sparked the Creation of Highly Happie? I am a Bloomfield College Graduate, currently pursuing a Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership. I am the creator of Highly Happie and I love to encourage people. Through life changing experiences, I discovered the unshakeable power of Encouragement. I was motivated to create Highly Happie, because of my deeply rooted passion to uplift and empower others. What are you currently doing to empower young professionals? As a professional in Higher Education, I empower those around me to be extraordinary leaders. My career has allowed me to have the amazing opportunity to present motivational speeches and train/prepare college students and Higher Education professionals for outstanding success. What is the overall goal you hope to accomplish through blogging? I love to see people accomplish incredible goals and I enjoy encouraging them along the way. My blog, Highly Happie, allows me to have a platform to do just that. I use my words to encourage and spread positivity to empower others to achieve their dreams. My hope overall, is that at least one person who visits my site, will be positively impacted in the most beautiful way. Visit Highly Happie at https://highlyhappie.wordpress.com/ and become empowered!! Thank you for being FEARLESS!!! Kian Hervey was born and raised in Dallas, and always called North Texas home. She graduated from Southern Methodist University (SMU) with a bachelor’s degree in journalism and minored in communication studies and business. While at SMU she also took courses in Dallas, Washington, D.C., and London, England. She now serves as Editorial Director and publisher of Forty Magazine, a magazine for young professionals and also works fulltime at Southwest Airlines as a publications specialist. What sparked the creation of Forty Magazine? After I graduated from college, I started working at a local Fortune 500 Company. Despite all the training and success I had in college, there was no class or outside training that could have prepared me for working forty hours a week. I started Forty Magazine to first share what I had learned from working at one of the most LUVed companies in the world, and to provide a platform for other young professionals needing to fill the gap in their education between a campus and corporate America. What are your future goals/plans for the platform? Right now, my immediate goal for Forty Magazine is to see it grow across college campuses and the corporate recruiter community. As we enter year three of operation, our fans can expect a lot more from Forty. What are you doing to empower young professionals? Forty Magazine empowers young professionals to share their unique professional experiences right after college. So many of us are experiencing similar struggles transitioning from a school environment to a corporate office, it’s important that we help each other through our early years of adulthood and the beginning stages of our career. Any upcoming events or promos? We’re coming up on our two-year anniversary in October. So follow us on social media @40Magazine more details about a special event in Dallas next month. Kian Hervey took a small idea and turned it into an entire platform. Thanks to your fearlessness young professionals around the world will now have something to keep them inspired and empowered. Thank you for being FEARLESS!
