Schentel Jones is the creator of the newly inspirational blog Highly Happie! We all know first hand how hard it is to create a platform that allows others to enter your personal thoughts. Schentel UNLEASHED that boulder and allowed her dream and vision to come into fruition which has now inspired and empowered so many young professionals.
What Sparked the Creation of Highly Happie?
I am a Bloomfield College Graduate, currently pursuing a Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership. I am the creator of Highly Happie and I love to encourage people. Through life changing experiences, I discovered the unshakeable power of Encouragement. I was motivated to create Highly Happie, because of my deeply rooted passion to uplift and empower others.
What are you currently doing to empower young professionals?
As a professional in Higher Education, I empower those around me to be extraordinary leaders. My career has allowed me to have the amazing opportunity to present motivational speeches and train/prepare college students and Higher Education professionals for outstanding success.
What is the overall goal you hope to accomplish through blogging?
I love to see people accomplish incredible goals and I enjoy encouraging them along the way. My blog, Highly Happie, allows me to have a platform to do just that. Kian Hervey was born and raised in Dallas, and always called North Texas home. She graduated from Southern Methodist University (SMU) with a bachelor’s degree in journalism and minored in communication studies and business. While at SMU she also took courses in Dallas, Washington, D.C., and London, England.
She now serves as Editorial Director and publisher of Forty Magazine, a magazine for young professionals and also works fulltime at Southwest Airlines as a publications specialist.
What sparked the creation of Forty Magazine?
After I graduated from college, I started working at a local Fortune 500 Company. Despite all the training and success I had in college, there was no class or outside training that could have prepared me for working forty hours a week. I started Forty Magazine to first share what I had learned from working at one of the most LUVed companies in the world, and to provide a platform for other young professionals needing to fill the gap in their education between a campus and corporate America.
What are your future goals/plans for the platform?
Right now, my immediate goal for Forty Magazine is to see it grow across college campuses and the corporate recruiter community. As we enter year three of operation, our fans can expect a lot more from Forty.
What are you doing to empower young professionals?
Forty Magazine empowers young professionals to share their unique professional experiences right after college. So many of us are experiencing similar struggles transitioning from a school environment to a corporate office, it’s important that we help each other through our early years of adulthood and the beginning stages of our career.
Any upcoming events or promos?
We’re coming up on our two-year anniversary in October. So follow us on social media @40Magazine more details about a special event in Dallas next month.
The beautiful Finda Kpakiwa intrigued me upon our first encounter. Her selfless aura and empowered personality has propelled her to become a fearless entrepreneur. Her Empowered perfume smells truly empowering. It is radiant and is definitely a captivating scent. Grab a purse size scent for yourself below!
The story of Empowered, by Finda Kpakiwa
I moved to New Jersey from central Pennsylvania in November of 2008, what was considered the hight of the economic recession. With only $330 dollars to my name, I agreed to stay with a cousin and sleep on his old, broken leather couch.
Despite the tough living conditions, I was still happy in my heart. I knew that making this move would put me one step closer to my ultimate goal. I took on three jobs to support myself and my journey. During my various trips to my jobs via public transport, I briefly had a thought of a perfume line that would exude everything I believed a strong, independent woman should be in the form of a scent. It was not until I went through a number of trials with my business that this single thought came to life.
After suffering what I considered a major failure, I decided to take one day to fast and allow myself a cleanse to ease my soul. It was then that my mind was flooded with the idea of my fragrance once more, and this time with a simple name, Empowered. I knew in my heart that now was the time to go forth and bring this scent from the depths of my mind into reality!
My partner and I researched low cost manufacturers that would provide the service of creating the fragrance itself and bottling it. We found one in Florida and began the process of selecting a base fragrance and going through various formulations to find the one that sat in my mind for so long. Once that was completed, the first 500 unit run of purse sprayers were filled and shipped. It was one of the happiest days of my life!
I immediately went to work attending fashion meet ups, visiting independent boutiques and growing my network to spread the word of Empowered and its mission. We will soon enough have full sized offerings and a dedicated web store page to begin our next phase of production.
My advice to rising entrepreneurs is to forge and maintain a high level of confidence within your own abilities. You must first improve yourself before you can improve your immediate surroundings. By building this confidence and resistance to defeat, you will no doubt succeed in any endeavor you take on.
